Bioprogressive

In orthodontics we are using a Bioprogressive therapy concept which is not an orthodontic technique but, more importantly, it encompasses a total orthodontic philosophy. Bioprogressive therapy accepts as mission the treatment of the total face rather than the narrower objective of the teeth or occlusion.
  • Applying visual treatment objectives in treatment planning, evaluating anchorage and monitoring results.
  • Torque control.
  • Muscular and cortical bone anchorage.
  • Movement of teeth with proper application of pressure.
  • Correction overbite before overjet.
  • Sectional arch therapy.
  • Concept of overtreatment.
  • Unlocking malocclusion in a progressive sequence of steps to establish or restore more normal function.
  • Efficiency in treatment with quality results utilizing a concept of prefabricated appliances: Orthoplus ….

  • Functional education and treatment

Functional Education was generated by the Bioprogressive philosophy that advocates a global and customized approach of the patient Today, it is widely integrated in all treatment philosophies worldwide as a key element of the treatment

It gives a full meaning to the naming of “Dentofacial Orthopedics” and extends the scope of the practitioner to a global management of his/her patient. Functional Education can be ideally implemented in children from 4 to 14 years of age and over, but also in adults, through the correction of bad habits and of their consequences (lowered tongue position, lips or tongue interposition, mouth breathing, nasal valve collapse...). It will bring a long term stability of the corrections from orthopedic treatment by fixed appliances, and improve the comfort and well-being of the patient.

It is a System with no-braces approach to straightening teeth and jaws, using a light, intermittent forces to align the teeth by correcting the functions and the poor oral habits. This is done by using a series of removable dental appliances that are were for just 1-2 hours each day and overnight while sleeping. results in straighter teeth and improved function, leading to optimal facial development and a healthier smile.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF CROOdED TEETH

Did you know, 3 out of 4 children have crowded teeth and incorrectly developing jaws. These problems can be seen from as early as 5 years of age. Modern research has shown that crowded teeth, incorrect jaw development and other orthodontic problems are not caused by big teeth in small jaws or hereditary factors only: Mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, abnormal swallowing and thumb sucking are the real causes. Allergies, asthma and an open mouth posture also contribute to incorrect jaw development. Growing up, most of us have had one or more of these functional problems, which may have been the cause of incorrect dental and facial development. Just getting braces, with or without extractions, does not address the underlying causes of crowded teeth. This is why once the braces are removed, the teeth usually crowd up again, unless poor oral habits are corrected. This is why treatment with braces alone commonly results in the need for life-long retainers.
     Fonctional treatment goals:
  • Breathing through the nose (as possible)
  • Lips together at rest
  • Correct tongue position
  • No facial muscle activity during swallowing
  • Good facial development
  • No braces, retainers or extractions (when possible)
  • Straight teeth
  • Healthy hard diet

  •   How does work?
By using a functional appliance that includes a functional exercises therapy.  It allows an early treatment of malocclusion while the child is still growing.
